Jesus is the exact representation or image of the nature and character of God.
The book of Hebrews begins by stating that in the past, God spoke to people in many different ways through the prophets, but now He speaks to us through His Son, who has been appointed heir of all things and through Whom all things were made. Hebrews 1:1-2. Hebrews 1:3 goes on to say…
“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being,…” NIV;
“The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God,…” NLT;
“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature,…” ESV;
“…who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person…” NKJ;
“The Son is the radiance and only expression of the glory of [our awesome] God [reflecting God’s Shekinah glory, the Light-being, the brilliant light of the divine], and the exact representation and perfect imprint of His [Father’s] essence,..” Amplified Bible
Can we stop and settle this in our hearts right now? Jesus perfectly expressed God’s nature and character while He walked the earth. He perfectly expressed what the will of God was for the human race. So everything Jesus did or said expressed the will of God for mankind and the character or nature of who the Creator was. If we can settle this now right up front, everything else gets easier to comprehend when we examine Jesus’s life and the things He did. He only showed people what God’s will, or desire for them was…forgiving sins, healing people, confronting demons who would destroy lives, and demonstrating provision. These things are His desire for people to experience
Meditate on the scriptures above until they get down into your HEART, not just into your head. Leave human speculations behind, because the truth, the word of God, is all that is required for you at this moment. Think about the absolute, complete, wonderful goodness of God who provided all of this care for human beings wrapped up in His Son, in this one Person. He loved US so much, that He let His own Son die a horrible death on the cross. That is love. Everything Jesus was while He was on the earth, God the Father is and continues to be, forever and ever. That will never change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
In future posts, I plan to examine the things Jesus did and how those apply to us today. Let us truly examine and ponder the character and nature of this wonderful Creator God of ours, the One Who always wanted to dwell with men, and now has voluntarily come to live IN us!
