In a previous chapter, we discussed how I believe the young King David got free from fear and became a mighty warrior in God. David was a worshiper and that is how he defeated fear in his life. That is how we too can conquer fear. That is how David killed a bear and a lion and then Goliath, the giant that everyone else was afraid of.
David then took his experience as a worshipper of God and set up a tabernacle of praise and worship. It was a separate place from the original tabernacle ordered by God. It was in addition to that one. The original tabernacle was the place where the ark of the covenant was kept that represented the presence of God, the place where sacrificial offerings went on continually.
I believe David saw into the future, and saw what was needed to strengthen the people of God. If we find something that works for us, don’t we want to share that with others? Worship and praise was how David overcame fear and was able to serve God the way that he did. David had a heart after God, the scriptures say. Acts 13:22.
In the book of Revelation, we see that praise and worship go on continually in the heavenly realm. The original tabernacle dealt with sin, in order to cleanse the people. A place of continual praise and worship, along with prayers would strengthen the people of God in their faith. That is true today, as I believe David also found it to be true in his life. He appointed singers and musicians to carry out this 24/7 worship service and they, along with David, wrote the book of psalms. There are 150 Psalms!
Everyone probably understands the effect of music on some level. Music does things to a person‘s heart. It ministers along with the words in the song. I remember a time when I was unsaved how the words of songs spoke to my heart and I identified with them. They spoke to me. Music is a powerful influence.
We could consider that the enemy of our souls, Satan, at one time likely was the worship leader in heaven before he decided to usurp God. He continues to use music and words to lead humans down the wrong path. Ezekiel 28:13-16. But music was created by God to be used to worship Him. The devil perverts everything God has created.
There are those who have attempted to establish a 24 hour praise and worship center such as David had, here on the Earth. And while I am not negating that as the desire of God’s heart, I believe that perhaps it may be bigger than that. The worship of God in heaven that goes on continually may be found in the hearts of a company of people who worship God day and night in the earth without a visible organization. It may be a company of people who go throughout their day, serving their communities, their churches and serving other people. They have worship and praise in their hearts on a continual basis and show their worship and allegiance through their works
The New Testament says that believers are now the temple of God. That means that the temple, the holy place where God is, lives inside of the believer. It is spiritual and somewhat hidden at this point. It is only visible for those who are paying attention and seeing the fruit in the life of a believer.
Jesus said the kingdom of God is within you, which means the kingdom of God lives inside of our hearts, causing us to worship, causing us to do good works to serve others, causing us to do His will as Ezekiel 26 points out, and causing us to be pleasing to Him in all things. But one day, people on earth will see a government established on the earth that will be completely visible, where Jesus is openly Lord of the Earth, seated on a throne, and no longer hidden. In Isaiah 6:2, the prophet has a vision of the throne of God, and seraphim crying out to one another, saying “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is filled with His glory!”
Habakuk 2:14 also foresees this… “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. As the waters cover the sea.”
