Has any person significantly touched your life in a way that caused a repentance, a change of mind and heart? Someone who caused you to see things in a different way, with a new awareness of others?
Besides my favorite bible teachers and the Holy Spirit (obviously), I can think of two people right now. One affected me greatly by his generosity towards others, his servant attitude, his giving. It touched my heart and gave me new understanding. It changed my viewpoint; it softened me. I started working for him in 2012. It has been a privilege and an honor to know John. He greatly changed my outlook towards people. We are still great friends to this day.
I’ve recently become friends with another person who also has touched my heart in much the same way. It’s like I see people through his heart for them. It has given me a greater awareness of God’s care for people, especially the unfortunate and forgotten.
Ron is a disabled veteran with a ferocity to defend those less fortunate even at great cost to himself. Perhaps that is the soldier in him. He is a justice warrior to a fault. He does not claim to be a Christian, yet he sees reality. He causes me to see through different eyes than I had before.
These men are gifts from God, sent to enlarge my heart (and they have!) and my understanding of God’s heart towards people. Because of this, I can also see how much we need others. We need their experiences in life because it changes our own perspective. We are not meant to be without others.
We need to pay attention to who God is sending into our lives. If we dismiss them, we will dismiss God’s blessing to us. And I believe we will also miss His heart. He is teaching us and training us, not only through His word, but through others.
I am different after meeting John in 2012. I am more different after meeting Ron in 2026. Who is changing your life?
