Why the Devil Loves to Make us Sick

(Note: When I use the term “devil,” I am referring to the collective forces of darkness and not the head spirit. In the bible where it says Jesus was tempted of the devil, we can believe it was the head spirit that approached Him.)

Have you ever noticed when you don’t feel good, how it’s all about you? We are doing everything in our power to regain our health. It’s really all we can think about. Even the simple cold makes me sleep all the time and spend all my time and energies thinking about how I can feel better! And on top of that I can ruin relationships because I get cranky. Sick people just don’t feel good and because of that, it’s hard to respond well, right?

Sickness is a thief. It steals our time. It steals our money as we try to get back to health, especially if it’s something major. It is heartbreaking to watch the sickness and disease that people on earth deal with. Sickness and disease should not be normal in our lives…if we understand that we are to rule and reign on the earth over the devil and all of his works. God gave us an incredible immune system to protect us and help us stay healthy. Man is born with it. It’s God’s desire that we stay healthy so that we can continue to help others and advance His kingdom on the earth. We can do things to keep our immune systems healthy. Remember the woman with the issue of blood. She had spent all of her money on doctors for 12 years, but they could not heal her. She was out of options. She was ripe for a miracle from Jesus. (See Mat. 9, Mark 5 and Luke 8)

Jesus went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil. That’s what Acts 10:38 says. Jesus only did what he saw His Father doing. Therefore, healing and setting people free from the devil is the will of God. That ought to be our mission too. We have the same power inside of us; the power that raised Jesus from the dead is in us. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. Are we using that power to demonstrate the love of God to people who are hurting?

Jesus said He came to destroy the works of the devil. He took away the devil’s power over us when He died on the cross, but the devil is still working in the earth. Can you tell? I think it’s getting worse. Maybe we, the church, need to step up and be available when God calls on us. Are we listening, looking and waiting, and even praying for Him to put people in our path that need Him? Jesus has many people He would like to reach. There is a harvest to bring in!

Dear Jesus, Open our eyes to hurting people. Make us more aware of what You want to do in the earth through us. We want to see Your Kingdom come, and see Your will done in our own lives and the lives of those around us.
