Thirsting for God?

When I first got saved and filled with the Holy Spirit some 37 years ago, I had a hunger and thirst to know God that was practically UNquenchable! All I did at that time was go to my part time job, read the bible and pray. I devoured the New Testament probably five times in that first 6 months. I was HUNGRY and thirsty. I had so much to learn about Jesus.

Who was this Man who died to pay for my sins? Who was this Man who loved me that much? Did He really provide healing for my body too?

Later, I read books by other authors and listened to teachers on television. Their books I DRANK deeply from. Have you ever DRANK from a book? It’s like cold fresh water from a well…it quenches your thirst.

Watchman Nee was a Chinese evangelist who was arrested and put in prison by the Chinese Communist Party in the early 50s after China’s revolution. Before that, he had been a preacher/teacher to the Chinese people. He spent at least 20 years in a Chinese prison and died there in the early 1970s. But he wrote his sermons down and they were compiled into books that contain so much wisdom and faith, so much truth and so much nourishment for my soul. He dug deep and was a true expositor of the word of God. His writings are all in my library.

Another favorite teacher of mine was Myles Monroe. We discovered him in the early 90s on television. His messages on the original intent and purpose of God for man fed me too. These were things I had not heard anyone teach before. He died in a plane crash in this century and certainly far too early, as he and his wife were only in their 50s, but his books and recordings are still available and they are cherished at my home, laden with foundational truths I return to again and again to understand why I am here on the earth at this time.

Another writer/pastor I have drank deeply of is Francis Frangipane, who was originally pastor of a church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. My husband and I have traveled several times to attend conferences at his church and have even met him in person. His books are also books to drink deeply from…timeless truths of the Kingdom of God and the ways of God. Francis taught us about becoming the image of Christ, which would provide a shelter from the works of darkness and was the intention of God in bringing His many sons into His own glory.

There are others who have been streams of still waters to drink from, but I would have to say these are at the top of the ticket. Today, I receive wonderful revelation from teacher Andrew Wommack, and Gary Keesee, who say things that add still more to my understanding of the Kingdom of God. Sometimes it is amazing what clarity one gets when someone says something just slightly differently than you have heard it before. Mazel Tov! (That means good luck has occurred!)

Lance Wallnau provides teaching, revelation and prophetic insight into the turbulent times we find ourselves in in our country today. The body of Christ needs leaders of integrity who can speak clearly as we navigate the troubled waters we find ourselves in. The Holy Spirit is in us and with us and points out things to us. We need teachers, prophets, apostles and the other gifts God has provided also. We are incomplete without them.

As Ephesians 4:11-14 says, “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,…” We are still in that process.

Are you thirsty for something you can’t quite put your finger on? Does your life today satisfy you? If not, perhaps you need more of Jesus!
