According to Your Faith…

Before I gave my life to Jesus, I was in big trouble in my marriage. I remember waking up one morning and knowing in my know-er that only God could save us. And I began to search in that direction to find Him. I also had a medical problem. I believed that God could heal me; I just didn’t know if He would, because I did not know about the promises in His word and I didn’t know much about His character.

I think many of us may find ourselves in these same situations. We believe that God has all power and can do just about anything. We just don’t know if He wills to do it, if He really wants to. When we begin to study His word, we see what God’s desires for us are. Jesus is the picture of what God desires. It is always good things, just like you want good things for your children. Do you think you love better than God? I doubt it very much!

In Matthew 9, starting at verse 27, we see a story about two blind men who were following Jesus one day, and they were crying out, “Son of David, Have mercy on us.” Jesus gave them His attention and asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” And they said, “Yes, Lord.” Much like me so many years ago, they believed He was able.

“Then He touched their eyes, SAYING….According to your faith let it be to you. And their eyes were opened.” So obviously, they had faith for their eyes to be opened. This appears to be a principle we can easily see in stories throughout the entire New Testament. As the report of physical healings spread, people’s hope and faith was aroused and many sought Him out to be healed of their many sicknesses and diseases. How many times have you heard a testimony of God’s goodness that brought tears to your eyes because your heart was touched by His goodness? I remember watching the 700 Club, and the testimonies of people being healed made me cry because I saw His goodness and His love for people. His goodness will heal your heart and your body. These stories inspire faith to receive for yourself.

Jesus paid for us to not only be saved and delivered from sin, but also to experience healing and health in our bodies. Like salvation, we receive it by faith. Sickness and disease are tools of the enemy. They are not from God. They are the result of a devil roaming the earth seeking whom he may devour, as well as our own ignorance of God’s word and perhaps even disobedience. Even the Old Testament saints could and did experience healing and health. In Exodus 15:26, we see the promise being made concerning health to God’s people. In Deuteronomy 7:15 and 28:60, the promise is restated. If the people stayed under the protection God offered through obedience, they could experience health. The Old Testament saints did not know about the devil as Jesus had not come yet.

If you study all the healings in the New Testament, you will find that most of the specific healings Jesus did were obtained by people who had faith for it and approached Jesus to get it. God always responds to faith.
