Jesus Is a Yes Man

His yes button was and is always ON! Want to know how I know?

The story of the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 25:25-34 tells me so. I have written about this woman before in Dogtags and Pearls #7, but this morning I was reminded that God responds to faith. This story is the perfect picture that Jesus is a yes man.

“Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, ‘If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.’

Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched My clothes?’

But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’

And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.’”

Breaking the story down…

The woman had a bleeding problem. She was considered unclean because of it and according to Jewish law, was not to be in public among people.

She had had it for twelve years and had spent all her money on the doctors and could not find healing. Her problem was growing worse, the scripture says. She was desperate. Perhaps she was close to dying. Is that you today? There is hope.

Hearing about Jesus, the woman takes a chance

She heard through the grapevine about Jesus healing people and decided to go for it, hiding in the crowd. She said to herself “if only I can touch the hem of his garment, I will be healed.” She stated her faith that Jesus could heal her and what her point of contact was to get that healing. She could not publicly ask for prayer as she was not supposed to be in public with her illness. There was a crowd around Jesus. He was being thronged and she came up secretly in the midst of the people. She did not ask Him for prayer. She did not ask Him to heal her. She did not get hands laid on her. She expressed her faith with her words.

When she grabbed the hem of His garment, Jesus felt power leave Him. He did not know who it went to. He was being thronged with people. He asked “Who touched me?” His disciples must have been amazed. Most likely there were many people close to Him and perhaps touching Him, but He felt power leave Him and go to someone.

I have felt this power before…while praying for a child who had been admitted to the hospital and the parents were quite worried about her condition. I prayed and felt power leave me. Later I found out the child had recovered and had returned home.

The woman comes forward and gives her healing testimony

Back to the woman…I can imagine the crowd growing silent as Jesus asked that question. Everyone would be looking around. The woman was most likely frightened to come forward. The story says “immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up and she felt it in her body.” She felt the blood dry up in her body and it is conceivable that is what made her gather courage to publicly admit she was the one who touched Him. Jesus then told her that it was her faith that healed her.

The power of God is always on

This story demonstrates that the power of God is always on “ON” and just needs people with faith to avail themselves of it. 2 Chronicles chapter 16 also affirms this fact.

2 Chronicles 16:9  “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him…”

Another scripture that affirms Jesus is a Yes Man if found in 2 Corinthians 1:18-20 “But as God is faithful, our word to you was not Yes and No. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes. For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”

Zondervan Amplified bible, verse 20: “For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes (answer) in Him (Christ). For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him—that is, in His Person and by His agency—to the glory of God.

The power of God is always on; it is available to us. We have to avail ourselves of it with our faith. Dare to believe Him! Hallelujah to our great and loving God!
