Agreement With God’s Word

The main aspect of experiencing and enjoying the benefits of new covenant blessings (which were also promised in the Old Testament) is being in agreement with the word of God.  Many people say, oh yes, I believe the word of God, but if I were to quote a particular passages of scripture to them, they would say they did not believe that. Or they would say, “well our church doesn’t teach that.”

Do you believe what Romans 10:9 says….”that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved,”? Do you believe that? I think most people would say they do. The verse goes on to say, “For with the heart man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” I think most people would agree with this verse, that this is how receiving salvation happens.

Believing every word from the mouth of God

In Matthew 4:4 (Luke 4:4), we see Jesus speaking the word of God out loud to the devil, “But He answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”  This statement establishes the absolute supremacy of every word from God.

So let’s look at other statements the scriptures make and see where and if our faith is engaged…1 Corinthians 2:16 says “We have the mind of Christ.” Do you believe that? If not, why not? Is it working in your life? If you believe it, you should be seeing some proof of this happening in your life.

1 Peter 2:24 says “By His stripes we were healed.” Do you believe this passage? There are plenty of other scriptures, in the Old and New Testaments that refer to the healing provision. Is this working in your life? If not, why not?

Jude 1:24 says “He is able to present you faultless before God….” Do you believe this? I admit I struggled for some time with this one, because I still had sin in my life!

Philippians 2:13 says “It is God who is at work in us to will and to do for His good pleasure.” Do you believe this passage? Can you see it working in your life?

1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Do you believe this promise? Are you walking in freedom from sin? If not, why not?

Here’s a big one: Mark 16:17-18 says “These signs will follow those who believe, he will speak with new tongues, he will lay hands on the sick and they will recover…” Do you believe this one? If not, why not? Most people who attend church do not.

So, let’s think this through logically. How is it possible to say the Bible is the inspired word of God and that you believe it, if you do not believe these things also? You cannot. You are picking and choosing what to believe. We need to know and believe what the Bible says. We have no other source of truth in the world. Faith in God’s word comes by hearing it. To believe the word of God should change your whole paradigm view of things.

An elderly Abraham gets a son by a promise from God

Abraham was promised a son over 25 years before it ever happened. Want to know when and why it happened? I’m convinced that the reason it actually happened was because God changed his name from Abram to Abraham. Abraham means “father of nations”. So every time Abraham introduced himself to someone he was agreeing with the promise God had given him so many years ago….he was saying “I am the father of nations.” Even thought he had no child and was very old. People must have thought he was crazy. They will think you are crazy too when you see what God wants to do in your life and begin to agree with and proclaim that vision.

In Genesis 12 we first see the promise being given to Abraham: “I will make of you a great nation.” At the time, Abram was 75 years old. In Genesis 15, we see God coming to Abram to make a covenant, making the promise and showing him through the stars and the sand particles how many his descendants would be. When Abram was 99 years old, in Genesis 17, God changes Abram’s names to Abraham, meaning father of many nations. Sarai’s name was also changed to Sarah, meaning a mother of nations. Abraham found it all hard to believe, I’m sure, but Isaac was born from Sarah the following year.

Man and God in partnership

Agreement with God’s word is important because we live in a war zone where the devil roams about seeking whom he can kill, destroy and steal from. That is his function. He is here to war against God’s people and all of mankind in general. The promises of God that come into the earth realm are contingent upon men agreeing with them. “Your Kingdom come, You will be done…” It’s a partnership. God made the world, made man and put him in the garden to tend and keep it and gave him rulership over it and dominion over all the creation. Because the partnership with man and God was disrupted, God was locked out of earth’s affairs….unless he could get man to agree with him. That would give God entrance to do things He wanted to do to counter the work of the evil one.

Daniel agrees with God’s prophecy of 70-year captivity

In Daniel 9 and 10, we see Daniel reading the book of Jeremiah foretelling the 70 years of captivity for the Jews in Babylon and that they would be returning to the Promised Land at the end of that time. That’s what prophetic words do, they give you a vision for what is coming, and what God wants to do if he can get man to agree with him. So Daniel set himself into agreement with the prophecy and the plans of God, and they came to pass.

Isaiah prophesied a virgin would conceive. He spoke it and wrote it…eventually it came to pass. Jesus was prophesied to come into the earth, the first time in the Garden of Eden, but later in other places in the Bible. It was the first promise said to the serpent that God was going to send Someone to deal with him. I have read that there are 2500 prophecies in the Bible and about 2000 of those have come to pass to the letter. The pattern is that God puts his intentions, His word or His plan into the earth, by speaking directly to a man what He wants to do. Men receive it, believe it, say it, write it, and agree with it, and it eventually comes to pass. Agreement with God’s word is powerful! We are partners in seeing His will and His word come to pass in the earth.
