I Am Willing…Be Cleansed

Do you believe that God is able to do anything, but you’re not sure if He will do it for you? I was like that at one time. I knew God could heal me of a physical problem I had, but I wasn’t sure that He would. Because I did not know God at all then, I did not know if it was something He wanted to do.

In the Bible, there was a leper who thought like that too. This leper was an outcast from society because of the severity of the skin disease that he had. He cautiously approached Jesus about being healed of the leprosy. Apparently this man had heard that Jesus was healing people of their sicknesses and diseases and decided, why not?

Matthew 8:2 says, “And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” In Matthew 8:3, we see Jesus’s response. “Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, ‘I am willing; be cleansed.’ Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.”

Jesus said He was willing! Can there be any better news than that? This leper would now be allowed back into society if his leprosy was gone. This healing was going to change his entire life and his family’s life. We don’t know how long he had lived with the disease, but it might have been for quite a while.

Are you any different than that leper? You may not have leprosy, but your physical problem might be as bad or even worse than his. You may have had something for years, and doctors cannot find an answer to get you on the path of healing. Is God a respecter of persons? The Bible says He is not. Your station in life, whether low or high, how smart you are or not, does not determine if God will heal you. There are several scriptures in the Old and New Testaments that say there is no partiality with Him. He has no favorites when it comes to His benefits. All are welcome to partake of the Kingdom of God.

Acts 10:34 “Then Peter opened his mouth and said: ‘In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.'” (In this incident, Peter sees the heathen get saved and filled with God’s Spirit.)

Romans 2:11 “For there is no partiality with God.”

Galatians 2:6 “But from those who seemed to be something—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows personal favoritism to no man—for those who seemed to be something added nothing to me.

Ephesians 6:9 “And you, masters, do the same things to them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master also is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him.

Deuteronomy 10:17 “For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.

2 Chronicles 19:7 “Now therefore, let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take care and do it, for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, no partiality, nor taking of bribes.”

We cannot have faith to receive anything from God if we do not know that He wants to do it for us. My next book has been written specifically to show through the scriptures the marvelous, generous character of our God Who, while He was here on the earth as a man functioning under the anointing of God, perfectly demonstrated that the Father desires physical healing for every person.

The apostle Paul also reflects the desire of God’s heart when he said, “Beloved I wish above all that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers.” 3 John 1:2 Paul knew God’s heart.

God wants you well, without sickness or disease, and He wants you to prosper in every way. You cannot do that if you are sick and spending your resources going to doctors all the time. I’m not saying not to seek them out for assistance, but I am saying they don’t have all the answers. There was a lady in the New Testament who had an issue of blood for 12 years and had spent all she had on doctors. She was desperate, and she received healing of that problem when she touched the hem of Jesus’s garment. (See Matthew 9:20-222) He felt power leave his body.  Healing was provided for under the old Covenant also. There’s no reason to believe anything has changed in that regard.

The leper had no confidence that Jesus (or God) wanted to heal him. He had no confidence in the society he lived in. He was an outcast in society. He had shame. Lepers lived in camps with other lepers. Lev.13:45-46. Lepers were considered utterly unclean both spiritually and physically. Leprosy was contagious, so they were quarantined from society. They had to stay a distance of six feet away from people, even their own family. If they approached people they had to cry out that they were unclean to let people know to not come near them.

That’s why he approached Jesus the way He did, saying if you are willing….you can…but He found out exactly how God felt about Him when He received healing. This leper found out that God is good and God really did care about him. Jesus’s response is so perfect! “I am willing…be cleansed.” And the man was healed from that very hour. How wonderful is our God! How can anyone doubt His love when we see these things!
